Menstrual cup, Press

Periodic protection: tampons, pads and menstrual cups with a magnifying glass.

Since 2016, one study after another has shown that tampons and pads contain a cocktail of endocrine disruptors and toxic substances with carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (CMR) effects.

But few data exist on the composition of menstrual cups, which are more difficult to analyze.

The Claripharm solution

Scandalized that periodic protection with chemical products is presented to women as the periodic “protection” solution, Clarisse Le Court creates in 2013 the Claripharm Laboratory and launches on the market the Claricup menstrual cup, created for women, made in France, certified by the most demanding organizations, to protect women’s intimate life.

The menstrual cup is an alternative to the use of tampons and pads.

Usually made of silicone, it has been arousing growing interest among French women for almost 5 years because it is comfortable and reusable (therefore economical and producing little waste). The composition of the menstrual cup is difficult to analyze because the laboratory techniques to which conventional periodical protections (made of cotton, cellulose fibers or plastics) are subjected are not applicable to the silicone of menstrual cups. The Claripharm Laboratory therefore collaborates in particular with the ANSES in order to share its expertise in the analysis of the menstrual cups it manufactures.

Everything that the Claripharm Laboratory announces is proven

Our claims are validated by research of residues with toxic risk and by tests of biocompatibility of the finished product. Staphylococcus aureus growth tests determined an optimal wearing time of 6 hours, a result in line with the latest studies on Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS). As cleaning and disinfection are essential steps to reduce any risk of TSS, the Claricup is always supplied with its medical grade polypropylene box, which allows you to disinfect your cup in 5 minutes in the microwave, a recommendation validated as always by tests carried out in an independent laboratory.

L’équipe du Laboratoire Claripharm rejoint les conclusions de l’ANSES 1et 60 millions de consommateurs 2.

We can only deplore the fact that in Europe periodical protections are not health products, whereas other countries, such as Canada or Australia are more demanding and classify periodical protections in the field of Medical Devices 3.

The regulatory arsenal therefore exists to enable manufacturersto ensure that their products are safe and uncontaminated.

The Claripharm Laboratory uses this arsenal by applying the international standard ISO13485 (Quality Management System for Medical Devices 4) to its Claricupmenstrual cup. 10 people in a start-up in Brittany manage to impose this standard to offer the safest products on the market. Why is this standard not mandatory and applied by all manufacturers of periodic protection? Why is this standard not mandatory and applied by all manufacturers of periodic protection ?

Do we have to wait for a new scandal to impose standards and certifications on all manufacturers of products concerning half of the population, for 5 days, 13 times a year, for 40 years?

Claripharm Laboratory is committed to accompanying this change towards greater safety for women.
